Day 8 - Letter to yourself in 10 years #Blogtober14
Today´s promt: Letter to yourself in 10 years
Dear future Bree,
you´re already 37 now... that´s old as fuck (you still remember who´d say so?)! I hope when you read this lines 10 years from now you´ve found your place in life and will remember and laugh about the struggle of being single at 27. Seeing how much happened the last 10 years and how many decisions changed the path over and over again I have no clue where you will be 10 years from now.
I hope you finally found the one you want to spend your life with and I can imagine you would give up everything you have to follow the love of your life to the end of the world. Or maybe you found someone who lives just around the corner (and was hiding well the last 20 years). No matter which place you live in, I hope your home is in his arms and that is all that counts. I´m also wondering if you already have kids. I mean at 37 you should probably have one.. or two.. or three kids. Or did you just take the career path and run one.. or two... or three offices? Maybe if Mr. Right is around you just do both.
I´m sure you´ve been traveling a lot of places the last 10 years and have some cool stories to share! Did you follow the advice to have some fun and finish your bucket list?
Anyway, a lot of things will happen the next ten years and I hope when you read this again you will smile because everything turned out to be perfect...
Love
the younger Bree

Day 7 - Best / worst vacation #Blogtober14
Duh, I had a lot of really good vacations and I´ve been to so many lovely places. Choosing one as best is really hard. But I think I will go with my latest vacation, which was one of many trips to beautiful PRAGUE.
Prague is always amazing. I can´t get enough of it. As it is just a 3-4 hour ride I´m in Prague quite often. I know the city and all tourist attractions already, so I don´t need to see something new, I don´t need to run through the city with a map in hands all the time. I can really enjoy being in vacation at a place I know very well. I enjoy maundering through the beautiful old town, settle down for a coffee, go on walking through the streets, crossing Charles Bridge, changing to Hradčany and Lesser Town and visiting Prague Castle. Maybe settling down for another coffee, just relaxing and watching the people walking by.
In the evening Prague offers many nice restaurants, bars and clubs. Also the hotels are stunning. You will find good bargains for amazing hotels with great service. My latest stay was at ArtDeco Imperial, I can really recommend that one.
If you want to have a nice dinner outside, you should stop by at the rooftop terrace of the Hotel U Prince, where you have an amazing view over Old Town Square.
Enough said, enjoy some pictures:
This is at the rooftop terrace at Hotel U Prince. Like I said, really lovely and the serve great food. Also at affordable prices. In the back you can see a bit of the lit sights, quite a touching atmosphere!

More interested in nightlife? Don´t miss to check out Black Angel´s bar at Hotel U Prince. It´s a New York style cocktail bar, in my opinion serving the best cocktails in town. Also at very affordable prices.

My worst vacation: Berlin. Not because of the city, just because of snow and rain and hail. We spent a long weekend in Berlin around Easter time 2012. We didn´t expect summer temperatures, but nobody thought it would be bittercold, rainy, windy and even hailing. I think we didn´t even took any showable pictures, because it was soo uncomfortable outside.

Day 6 - 10 Things You'd Tell Yourself When You StartedBlogging #Blogtober14
First I have to say this blog started as a way to communicate with friends, so I wasn´t thinking about having any other audience or followers. From that perspective I did not give much thoughts about the whole thing and just started. If I had to start again at this point this would be my 10 advices though:
1 - Yes, it is strange to publish your thoughts. Even if you´re already blogging for a long time you will find yourself thinking about what to publish and what to keep private. Sometimes it is good to have the courage to post something serious or sad, because even blogging-world is not a happy place all day long. Find the right mixture!
2 - Don´t worry if anyone is ever going to read what you wrote. It is enough if you like what you wrote. A part of your blog will always be a scrapbook of your life you just write for yourself.
3 - No matter which topic to blog about - be respectful! Even writing not about a person but about a certain topic might hurt someone else´s feelings.
4 - Even if you´re writing this for friends and family - take a look at other blogs, get inspired!
5 - It is strange to see your own pictures online, but you don´t have to hide yourself. There might be more beautiful girls, skinnier girls, more perfect girls - it doesn´t matter. It is your blog, so you matter.
6 - Get connected till Bloglovin, pinterest, instagram and twitter are your best friends :)
7 - Join linkups! They are a great way to learn and improve writing by a given topic. Although it´s fun to see all the different posts that started all at the some point.
8 - Sometimes writing a blog post will be difficult. Maybe you´re too stressed out, maybe you´re just not in the mood - hang in there!
9 - Play with different layouts, colours and designs. A blog is your creative outlet in many ways.
10 -Be happy for finding new followers, lovely readers or blogging friends!

Day 5: FALL BUCKET LIST #Blogtober14
So, I´m starting a little late into Blogtober. But better late than never!
Today´s prompt is FALL BUCKET LIST, so here we go with my 10 things to do in fall:
1 - Be awarded with the academic degree of an LL.M.
My university set Oct 31st as the day to held the awarding ceremony for all master´s titles. Seems like lawyers ignore the fun of Halloween. Thanks for that! Still we all worked hard for this day to come and I really look forward to see all my fellow students again and finally become a Master of Laws in Taxation. Though the law related master´s degree is hardly common over here in Germany and I have to be prepared to be asked a lot what the LL.M. behind my name means :)
2 - Visit Oktoberfest
That´s quite self-explanatory, isn´t it? Get in a crazy crowd of drunk people.
3 - Go on a weekend getaway
Seriously, I need a break. I´m working crazy hours and am desperately longing for a weekend somewhere else.
4 - Watch some episodes of True Detectives
This series was recommended by a friend and I really want to find time just to have a lazy afternoon and watch some episodes.
5 - Make/bake/cook everything pumpkin
I just found out how easy cooking anything with pumpkin is last year, so I´m really looking forward to make pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread and pumpkin spiced whatever....
6 - Change to fall clothes
I really love fall for so many reasons. One of them is that I´m always freezing and fall is the perfect opportunity to cover in everything out of wool and cashmere and cozy and soft. And wrap huge knit scarves around.
7 - Make a mason jar of Moonshine
I love the apple and cinnamon mixture of Moonshine... can´t get enough of it.
8 - Enjoying walks with my dog through golden sun and colourful leaves
9 - Go to the gym at least three times a week
I´m still obsessed with going to the gym. Never thought it would grow into a routine so fast.
10 - Simply having some fun night out
Life´s tending to too much work, too much seriousness and too little fun lately. We need to change this.
When writing my own fall bucket list I asked a friend what his would be like. So here's also a fall bucket list written by my dear friend Nathan:
Linking up with Helene and Taylor for #Blogtober14

1. Write a poem that isn’t terrible and a short story that I’m willing to share with others
2. Visit a country I’ve never been to before
3. See my brother and my cousins
4. Send in my law school applications
5. Discover a new favorite music album
6. Survive the month of October with my dignity and career intact
7. Learn how to cook something other than chicken stir-fry and spaghetti
8. Run the Amberg Franciscan Monastery hill three times in one session
9. Add 15 lbs to each of my lifts
10. Read actual books at least one hour every day
I'm really looking forward to see how Nathan's doing with his list, maybe we'll get a guest blog post soon :)
#186 - A classy date in sneakers
For all of you who wonder for some lines how this is connected to the headline - it´s also classy to give just a single flower to a woman. Not an overloaded bouquet of flowers, just a single flower someone chose himself just for you. It is classy, if he brings you to think about all this so no date-like topics and you still have a really good time even you´re not on the bright side of conversation topics all the time. It is good to meet someone you can have fun and be serious with same time. I´m looking forward to more of that :)
Have a lovely Sunday evening & a good start to the new week!

# 184 & 185 - A date without garlic isn´t a date
| found at |
You know, one day
I was driving my way
It rained cats and dogs from heaven
when I started texting with the fella at seven.
We set a date before eight
had garlic and wine before nine
and sealed the deal after second meal.
I know this sounds crazy,
he didn´t even stole me a daisy,
but don´t be impatient -
thing is, I guess somehow
I fell in love with a special agent.
I´d say I´m a spontaneous person. Saying Hi first time in awful Tinder-land before 7 am on the way to work, setting a date before 8 am for the same day might be a bit too spontaneous for me though - at least I thought so.
I´m no person to do such crazy things, I like to know the people at least a bit better before meeting someone in real life. Still everything felt so easy-going and the pieces just assembled perfectly together, like you´d live on the same heartbeat (which I actually mean in a non-romantic way). I was lucky to meet someone very special, who made me laugh so much my abs hurt, who joined in on my irony and sarcasm. I meet a lot of new people, but most of the time it´s not that easy to feel really comfortable around someone you hardly know. He made it easy. He made it easy to have fun, make stupid jokes and blame yourself (in a good kind of way). He made it easy to leave some non-specifiable gap after he left. #swltgofd2a
Two days in a row we were the last guests at the restaurant, halfway getting kicked out. We challenged our luck a bit further and got kicked out of a bar after midnight finally. Yea, this is Thursday nights in Germany. They roll up the sidewalks after midnight.
I knew he was just there for two days of job training, leaving for another country afterwards and probley never coming back. I thought it wouldn´t hurt just to talk, have a nice dinner, each one going our way from there. #iirtsimy?
I´m sitting here now, typing this and wondering if all of this happened the last two days. It seems so irrational and without any reach. We promised to see each other in Prague. And I´m really trying to drag my thoughts another way and be rational about this. But I miss him.
Some people just leave a footprint in our life.

The day I started to go to gym
| link |
I never thought I´d see the day I go to gym. I always thought it´s quite embarrasing to exercise and train next to people I don´t know and expose myself to them while sweating and changing my face colour from pale to blazing red (which happens pretty fast).
Though I just registered. It´s time to do something to get in shape, I´m not getting younger (sadly). My first trainings were quite good, so I´m motivated to go on.

Back to date-land
![]() |
| found here |
It´s years later and obviously I´m not the lucky one with relationships. I loved Aaron to pieces, but we just couldn´t make it work. I was sad for a long time and I wish everything would´ve gone another way. I can´t make things undone and I can´t change what happened. So it´s time to start over again, no matter how hard it is. I´m back to date-land and hopefully I´m luckier this time....
Keep fingers crossed for me, I still did not loose faith that there is the right one out there so far.

Five Minute Friday - Laundry
Today´s topic: Laundy
Ummm, well... let´s see where this will take us in five minutes, because very honestly I´m not quite sure if I´m creative enough to spend five minutes thoughts to laundry. Why?
The obvious reasons - doing laundry is boring, always the same and nobody really likes it, right?
The hidden reasons - I live first floor in my parents house and we share a kitchen and the cellar (amongst other things). So, we also share the washer. Due to my mom´s unstoppable "I start doing laundry first thing Saturday morning"-schedule and my own "I prefer sleeping in, pouring myself a cup of tea, reading the newspaper, checking my mails, doing some other stuff... and at the very last position ... doing laundry and cleaning the bathroom"-schedule, my Mom´s already done before I even think about it.
Thanks Mom. Concerning laundry I´m the most spoilt 26-year-old woman in the world.
Not that I wouldn´t do it or offer it, but everyone who lives together with his/her parents after a certain point knows, that each one has a certain schedule and if this schedules don´t match you can either argue (a lot) or just let everyone do their own schedule. With all advantages and disadvantages.
Yup, five minutes. Have a nice Friday y´all, enjoy the sun - your washer won´t run away in the meantime.

72 days to Christmas...
No, I´m not the crazy type who needs to buy gingerbread as soon as it´s in the stores in early September. I will certainly not eat any before December. I don´t think Christmas songs have a right to exist out of advent, although I already heard some high-class interpretations of Jingle Bells in August. And "Last Christmas" should be especially and strictly reserved for the week before Christmas (only). I´d prefer not to be around though.
But - there are some very nice Christmas things that need some time for preparation and they are definitely entitled to cross this blog 72 days before Christmas Eve. It´s The 2013 Secret Santa Gift Exchange from Kym over at Travel Babbles :)

Friday's letters
Dear tax law studies, only two more exams (and 50 pages of master thesis) to go... I'm really at a stage where the monthly lessons start to seriously get on my nerves :/
Dear girls, can't wait to finally, finally see you again next weekend!!
Dear Deutsche Bahn, you once more were what you are known best for: delayed. Nice you woke me up yesterday with a text that my train later that day was cancelled and I got three additional texts the following hours that two more trains are cancelled and three more are delayed. Based on this I was pretty impressed that I reached my final destination with only one hour delay. Anyway, 11 more train rides to/from Münster until I finished all lessons... I can't wait for the big graduation party in October next year, woohoo!!
Dear my lovely secretary girls, please get rid of all that colds & coughing soon, we urgently need you to get us out of this office chaos :)
Dear darling, it hit me hard that you might not come back to Germany next year. One year already seems to be overwhelming but another one?
Dear ladies out there, check out Erin´s Pinktober-post over at TwoThirdsHazel, she set up a great Breast Cancer Awareness giveaway! I know everyone reads about breast cancer every now and then in the media or at your gynecologist, but this post is really worth reading.

Half an anniversary...
I know I wasn´t blogging for months now, life is just one crazy thing. Sometimes you look back and notice, that nothing special happened the last months. I mean, of course you celebrated birthdays, went out, met your friends, but it was just your everyday life going on. Not that this would be bad, not at all.
My life was pretty much like this the last years. Settled in, planned. Today is the best reminder, that many many things can change in half a year. Life can turn from precisely planned to having no plan at all, from feeling save to loosing your mind, from knowing what you definitely don´t want to doing exactly those things.
I´d never have believed if somebody told me back on New Year´s Day about all the things that happened since. I never thought the last six months could be so filled up with life, may it be the good or the bad days.
And therefore, this first new entry is for you, my darling...

Dear Aaron,
half a year ago a car stopped and - apart from everything a girl is taught by her mother from the cradle - I jumped in. You changed my life from the very first second and I´m blessed and thankful that you´re by my side. I hate the seperation we have to go through and sometimes it feels unbearable to miss you just one more day, knowing that it will be 365 days more to miss you. But there are those moments where I find myself thinking about you and starting to smile, just because my heart knows you´re somewhere out there. Even from a 5000 miles distance you can send me those perfect moments, no matter what´s happening around. Thank you for being my anchor in every storm and loving me on days I wasn´t very lovable. I wish I could give you just one kiss today... I love you.

Things to do while waiting for boarding...
I´m leaving to the States to see my sweetheart after two months of Skype, Facebook and What´s App. I can´t tell how excited I am. Sometimes I thought this day would never come.
I followed the friendly advice to be at the airport three hours before departure, because security controls for flights to the US may take longer than for other international flights etc.
It took me 20 min. Including dropping my suitcase.
And that leads to this post: How to waste time at the airport?
1. Be happy you´re a loyal T-Mobile customer, because that guarantees that you can access any Telekom hotspot for free internet and you are not tied to looking into your smartphone. I mean, I love my IPhone (all my friends can tell), but you can´t stare at it for 2-3 hours, right?
2. Take a seat and be sure you make friends with your neighbor. Cause you will need someone to keep your seat when you want to grab a coffee or go to toilet. It´s only about 100 seats for 600 passengers in this boarding hall.
3. Write tons of messages, cause once you arrive at your next airport (mine is Atlanta) you will have another 6 hrs until your next flight departs. You will be happy to find some answers waiting for you :)
4. Take a deep breath and relax. Yes, you will really be with your darling in a few (or more) hours.
5. Keep fingers crossed for friends who are in examination right at the time you lucky girl are already done with it and going on vacation.
6. Write a blog post and find out it´s another 1,5hrs to go.

Just because... I finished my exams. And ended up unemployed.
First things first: I passed my second state examination yesterday.
I wasn´t really happy about this yesterday, because the oral examination was a 5-hours-lasting mess. I mean, a examiner can ask you questions. Nice answerable questions, where you have to say something about. And they can ask the other type of questions. About the last paragraph you would´ve never learned, just because this paragraph is so unbelievably unimportant. So unimportant you have never heard about it during seven years of studying and legal clerkship. And you will probably never hear about it the following 30 years of working as a lawyer.
So, my grade wasn´t was I dreamt about and this just sucked. But well, 25% of my former colleagues didn´t pass the exam at all, so from today´s perspective I´m happy that I PASSED MY BLOODY EXAM, YEA!!!!!!
Which leads to that fact that due to insurance reasons today is my first day of being officially unemployed. This is kind of strange. I always had a plan. When taking the A-levels back in June 06 I knew I would start studying in October that year. After studying I knew I would do my legal clerkship. But today.. I don´t know what I will do in four months. I have no plan beyond June 8th (and the plan is going on vacation and spend time with my sweetheart). I´m not really worried about my future, I´m sure I´ll find a job. But for a to-do-list and plan-making obsessed person like me it is really strange to have no plan.
Ah well... I have one: Packing my suitcase. Write a guide for my brother how and when to water my plants during my vacation. Watch a movie without feeling guilty because I should better learn. Yes, sounds good, I´ll do this now...
I´m linkin up with Lisette from Northern Belle Diaries today, visit her blog!

One last weekend in law jungle. Learning craziness takes over.
This weekend is the last one I will spend in law jungle. It´s a secret place only law students have ever entered. And since then we are fighting throughout this raw and incomprehensible thicket.
This weekend I have to fight with hanging lianas of penal law, climbers of administrative law and the giant tree of civil law. And there are the promising flowers of tax law orchids, but careful - if you look at them too close you will get lost.
So, of course every law student starts the fight through the sheets, unscared and brave, prepared with the mighty weapons of statute texts, bright-shiny markers, textbooks, commentaries and the hope to get what was promised as "student life".
And then, we get into the big Facebook-ambush. Straight forward. It´s a big island in the middle of the jungle, promising an escape of white and blue. And as you´re already bloody exhausted by the hard five minute work you´ve already done (preferably flipping a book open and reading the index) you choose to stay juuuuuussssttt for a little, a tiny little while.
And the crucial problem is: Now you´re trapped in just another jungle. But one which makes so much more fun (and sense). I mean, isn´t it vital to know what happend last Friday night (while you were trying to learn)? And who can live without knowing what pictures your neighbors at your daily photo challenge took? Facebook as well knows how to show you what your blogging friends are doing, so you just have to take a sneek peak at the latest posts.
Luckily, many other law students also find their way to Facebook island during their time in jungle and soon a little chitchat is going on. Mainly about what you should (and don´t want to) learn and you soon work out a strategy - you´ve done enough for today, the others haven´t done more than you. It´s okay to stop learning.
And yes, facebook cares for you. Really, it does. It collects all your browsing behaviour just to give you that subtle reminder on the right sidebar that you have to prepare for life after law jungle. Because once I´m out I will go on vacation. And I haven´t booked a hotel for next Saturday night. You see, it was like a act of self-defence to follow Facebook´s friendly advice to click through booking.com and expedia.com and hotel.com and trivago.com..... That´s how I landed in travel jungle, which is placed amidst of facebook island.
So trapped in distraction suddenly a hole opened under my feet and I landed here, because shirking away from learning isn´t enough. I had to tell you *LOL*
And now I´m going back to my tax law books, which were patiently waiting for my return. Stupid things, they just never run away when they have the chance to...

Five Minute Friday - Comfort
All on one word: Comfort
Comfort is
snuggling in on the sofa, wrapped into a big blanket with a book in my hands
and a good cup of tea next to me. Of course it is essential that my black
fur-monster is curled up on my feet, peacefully dozing (and snoring).Comfort is coming home in the evening when all my family is gathered for dinner and we
just talk about things that happened in each other´s life that day. Comfort is knowing that there are people who will back me up, no matter what happens. And
with that knowledge you can have the courage to leave your comfort zone. Go
abroad and see what life holds for you. Sometimes it takes some strength to
step out into the unknown, when life in comfort zone would be just so easily
soothing you into staying on your couch. Why expose oneself to the risk of taking
damage in any way? Or just find oneself in a situation you don´t want to be in?
Why leaving family, friends and habits for a certain time, when you don´t know
what it is you trade it in? Why overcome the fear that you will lose what you
already have?
Because
even if it goes totally wrong and you have the worst time of your life, you get
something back: You grow. And when
you return and snuggle in on your sofa it is even more comfy than it´s ever been
before.
Friday´s letters
Dear Dad, I know Father´s Day was already yesterday in Germany. And you will probably never read this. But anyway, thanks for being worried about my decisions and yet supporting me by doing what I think is right. I know you wanted me to fall in love the easy way with a good guy who would love me just as much as I love him and protect me as you ever did and still do (regardless, that I´m turned 25 on my last bday). You weren´t surprised to hear that I fell for exactly that one who offered the most challenging relationship. You know me much better than I know, don´t you? And yet, you never tried to talk me out of flying to Arizona or said that this relationship would never work out. You just said that you´ll be there if I ever find out it won´t.

Dear Aaron, I can´t wait to see you again (and yes, I write this in the full awareness that I might repeat myself). I can´t wait to know you will be there, lying right next to me, when I open my eyes in the morning. To know that I don´t need to check my phone every five minutes for a message from you, because you will be right at my side for the whole day. To know I can hug you and kiss you whenever I want. And to know that goodnight just means goodnight for the two of us, not goodnight to you and good morning to me due to a 9hr time-lag.
